Tool setting method of CNC machining center

Apr. 14, 2022

Since the machining center has multiple tools and can realize automatic tool change, it is necessary to measure the basic size of each tool used and store it in the CNC system for calling during processing, that is, to perform tool setting on the machining center. Machining centers usually use an off-machine tool setter to achieve tool setting.

The basic structure of the tool setter is shown in Figure 5.29. In Figure 5.29, the tool setter platform 7 is equipped with the tool holder clamping shaft 2, which is used to install the tool to be tested, as shown in Figure 5.30 for the drilling tool. By quickly moving the single-key button 4 and the fine adjustment knob 5 or 6, the position of the tool holder clamping shaft 2 on the tool setter platform 7 can be adjusted. When the light source transmitter 8 emits light, and the tool blade is enlarged and projected on the display screen 1, the dimensions of the tool in the X (radial dimension) and Z (the length dimension from the shank reference plane to the tool tip) direction can be measured.

The tool setting operation process of the drilling tool is as follows:

1. Connect and install the tool to be tested and the handle as a whole;

2. Insert the shank into the shank clamping shaft 2 on the tool setter, and tighten it;

3. Turn on the light source transmitter 8 and observe the projection of the blade on the display screen 1;

4. By quickly moving the single-key button 4 and the fine-tuning knob 5 or 6, the projected position of the blade on the display screen 1 can be adjusted, so that the tip of the tool is aligned with the center of the crosshair on the display screen 1, as shown in Figure 5.31;

5. The measured X is 20, that is, the tool diameter is φ20mm, which can be used as tool radius compensation;

6. The measured Z is 180.002, that is, the tool length dimension is 180.002 mm, which can be used as tool length compensation;

7. Input the measured size into the tool compensation page of the machining center;

8. After the tool to be tested is removed from the tool setter, it can be installed on the machining center for use.
